Interdisciplinary Research
Research clusters enable our scholars and their partners in industry, other research organizations, and the community to exchange ideas and bring research knowledge to bear on cross-cutting questions of importance. Our eight research clusters are:
Urban Health and Public Policy
Urban health and public policy research entails interdisciplinary studies investigating the unique challenges present in the urban environment—with the goal of improving treatment modalities, and health outcomes, and influencing public policy. >Learn more.
Developmental Sciences
Developmental sciences entail the investigation of progressive changes that occur over the life span of individuals. The field is concerned with describing the characteristics of change over time, the underlying principles and causes of these changes, and the health outcomes that may occur as a result of the changes. >Learn more.
Science and Math Education and Learning Research
The goals of science and math education and learning research are to investigate teaching and learning materials and methods and to apply findings to the improvement of curriculum, instruction, and learning in schools and universities. >Learn more.
Computational Sciences, Analysis and Modeling
Representing an intersection of computer science, engineering, applied math, and the sciences (biology, physics, chemistry), the primary focus of the field is the construction of models and numerical analysis techniques to simulate, evaluate, and solve problems using computers. >Learn more.
Transnational, Cultural and Community Studies
This is an interdisciplinary social sciences focus involving the systematic study of the history, society, politics, culture, and economics of subsets of the population with common ethnic and racial characteristics or common traits and customs. >Learn more.
Integrated Environmental Monitoring
The goal of integrated environmental monitoring is to develop and use modeling and software technologies to advance the science and improve the decision making surrounding resource and environmental issues. >Learn more.
Biological Systems and Technology
This cluster analyzes the interactions between the components of a biological system and how these interactions give rise to the function and behavior of that system. >Learn more.
Sustainability and Social Venturing
A systematic approach to understanding how sustainability can become an organizational mindset and viable business model in the for-profit and non-profit sectors is the heart of this cluster. >Learn more.
